I got laid off

I won't bury the lede with this newsletter. Today I woke up and joined a meeting to find I was affected by layoffs at my now previous employer. To say I'm shocked would be an understatement. I've worked here since April of 2019, so it came as a huge surprise. I know many people who've been laid off over the past couple of years and now I can say I've officially joined them.

At this point ~6 hours after finding out I'm a bit shell-shocked and not sure what my next steps are going to be. I am looking for a new full-time role or even to pick up some hours contracting. I intend to finish the Learn Hotwire by Building a Calendar course as well. I will deliver the course to purchasers as promised. One of the things I've been looking forward to this year has been speaking at Rails World in Toronto this year. Bit ironic but now I'll be giving a talk about work I was working on when I was laid off. If you're going I'd love to chat and I hope you'll come to my talk.
